Splint boots?

Im jumping around 3 foot, do i need splint boots??

Splint boots?
It's a good idea to have boots, yes. For consistent or serious jump training, I would recommend either Woof Boots or Eskadron Open Front boots. There a little on the expensive side, but very good quality and fit.
Reply:I always put splint boots on my horse, even if we're just doing flatwork/pole work/cavaletti. I always have, and all of my horses have been fine.

But yes, you should use them for jumping, any height.
Reply:Durrrah you retard!!

Boots aren't gonna bow his tendon! I would never jump without them!

Buy some Eskadrons and get over yourself!
Reply:why are you afraid to use them if you are scared he might bow a tendon? you should be scared that you are NOT using them because he may bow a tendon. it's best to use them.
Reply:YES. Horses can seriously injure themselves without splint boots. If you put them on correctly, pulling the tendon in, you won't bow his tendon.

For schooling, I would recommend Eskadron Open Front Boots and for show I would recommend Beval Leather Boots.

Reply:I would use them even if your only jumping a few inches. Better be safe than sorry.
Reply:I've never heard of tendons getting bowed from boots. Its possible with bandages since they can be put on unevenly and too tightly, but boots are usually more foolproof. If you put them on tightly enough that you can still get a finger in, but they are not loose enough to fall down, then you probably have them adjusted just right.

Some tendon boots or open front jumping boots would probably be a good idea both for support and impact protection. Its probably not a necessity, but its better to be safe than sorry. And if they save you one vet visit then they pay for themselves. Other folks have already recommended some good brands.
Reply:i would suggest eskadrons, woof boots, or any other boot that closes by JUST pulling back, not my using a pulley. you have a much lower chance of hurting a horse with these:http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp... or these:http://www.doversaddlery.com/euro-pro-he...

then you do with these: http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp... or http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp...

so yes use boots, but use ones like the first two, and avoid the second two.
Reply:i have no clue about jumping but i barrel race and my mare and gelding wear them i havent heard of boots bowing tendons ive heard of wraps doing it but never boots
Reply:i would because its better to be safe than to risk lameness
Reply:You have to be careful with splint boots. Yes definitely use them while you are doing strenuous training and activity but leaving them on through the whole workout may heat the tendons and bow them.
