My father in law has over pronation in both his feet and he cannot get a pair of hiking boots to fit. He loves to walk his dog in the forest but with the boots he has got it is aggravating the condition. Money is not an object for the right boot! Can anybody help please?
Waterproof hiking boots with support for 'over pronation'. Any UK suppliers?
I think you just need to get a pair of boots with stiff ankle support (real leather tends to be stiffer) and then have special insoles fitted by an ortotics centre. I don't think this is cheap, but it makes him happy and means he can keep doing something he loves, it may be worth it. A cheaper alternative would be to try Scholl first; they used to have a service that fitted basic individualised insoles.
Reply:Why not have him get a pair he likes and then visit a doctor to get a prescription for orthotics? If he does have severe pronation he probably should be wearing orthotics on a normal basis anyways. Plus, if he had the inserts he could change them from shoe to shoe; especially if he had a muddy pair of boots and wanted to wear a clean pair- he could easily switch the orthotics in and out! Podatrists can also prescribe orthotics but I do have orthotics and would highly suggest a foot and ankle specialist (orthopedic surgeon.) They can make sure that everything checks out a-okay.
Hope that helps!
