CV boots?!?
CV boots are the rubber coverings that cover the CV joints. The joints are located between the engine and the front wheel drive wheels. There are usually 2 on each side. The clicking noise is the sound the joint makes when it is worn out.

The boots should always be changed any time the joint is changed since the boot slips over the joint. Bring the car to a trusted mechanic and he/she should be able to tell pretty quickly if that is what is wrong.
Reply:Bad news - the CV boot won't make any noise, but if it's torn, it will allow the grease to leak out of the joint and the dirt and road grime to enter and eventually cause the joint to fail and the resulting noise that you hear is more than likely a bad joint.

You can check for a leaking boot by turning the wheel in either direction and simply looking at the boot directly behind the front wheels. If you see any grease - usually splattered on the inside of the brake rotor and wheel, then you can be sure it's torn or pulled loose.
Reply:The cv boots keep moisture and dirt out og the constant velocity joints, and when they tear, the joints get damaged and click when turning.

Once they start clicking, the joints need changed, and its cheaper to have a complete axle assembly installed rather than just one joint.
Reply:If it's clicking while turning, that's the CV joints. Need a new half-shaft. CV Boots are the rubber part that keeps the dirt out of the joint. They're bad if they are torn or have a hole.

$60-$70 each, plus tax, and core charge, which you get back when you turn in the old ones, for new half-shafts. Labor, about an hour or so apiece flat-rate.
Reply:sounds to me like your cv boots have been bad for a while and your cv joints have been exposed to sand/dirt/crap and youll probably need to replace the cv joints. make sure you put on brand new boots after cleaning the joints out and then load those boots up with grease.

hope this helps, Austin
Reply:Turn the steering hard right while turning and hard left while turning and if the clicking is there replace the complete drive axles, it will be cheaper...
